ITEC 610 Final Post

I just finished my last mini assignment. It was kind of boring. I didn't really enjoy using ning. I can kind of see why people would want to create their own social network, but I wasn't really interested. This was my least favorite mini-assignment.

I am happy is basically over. Even though this was a summer class it seemed longer than 3 months. I really enjoyed reading my classmates views and opinions. I feel that the best way to learn is through other people. My least favorite part of the class was the group project. Other than I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot. I hope the next class I take will be as fun as this one.

ITEC 610 Week 11

I'm almost done with my final. I will finish it up tomorrow after work because I am pooped. The final seems to be a little harder than the mid-term, but I'm going to get through it. I'm hoping I can ace the final so I can secure my A in the class. I'm glad the semester is one week away from being done and over with. I definitely need a break and a vacation. Between work and grad school I don't have the energy to do much. I'm looking forward to some fun time after class is done.

I really enjoyed reading the team paper on touch screen technology. I think that this technology is a something that’s going to be here for awhile. Touch screen technology should be implemented in more places. Definitely would make my life easier since I use it as good as I use a mouse.

I’m signing off. It’s my bed time. Good Night!

ITEC 610 Week10

I just finished my mini-project for this week. I think this one was the best one. This is my first time editing/updating Wikipedia. I may do this more often. I think sites like Wikipedia useful resources because people can get a lot of good knowledge from it and make updates when needed. The more knowledge the better!

The group paper is due next week. I'm getting frustrated because I'm not getting much feedback from my group members. Only a couple of people replied to my message about getting the paper together. I guess we will just have to move along and make sure we meet all the criteria.
I guess I'm just a little worried. I'm starting not to like group work.

ITEC 610 Week 9

I am so excited. I just finished my mini-project. I decided to do my mini-project on the ability to disable the firewall settings on my work laptop to access instant messaging applications like gtalk, aim, and msn messenger while connecting via VPN. I've known about the loophole for over a year. I'm in shock that I even have the ability to do it. I feel that only system administrators should have the ability to change and update security settings. I do know that other employees can do this on their company laptops as well. This is a loop hole that needs to be fixed ASAP because disabling the firewall can allow other intrusions to take place.

I'm glad that this semester is almost over with. I'm ready for a little break.

ITEC 610 Week 8

I really enjoyed talking about my experiences with using the SDLC at Lockheed Martin. I'm glad I could give my classmates a peak into how its used and why it works so well. I'm not sure of any company that doesn’t use the SDLC because it keeps an organization abreast of what’s going on with the project.

I redid my mini-project. I first submitted facebook, but after some rethinking I decided to do my SWOT analysis on Lockheed Martin since I work for them. My classmates are probably tired of me bringing up Lockheed in almost every discussion thread. I guess I only talk about what I know. Lockheed is the only company I've worked for since I graduated from college. So I know it like the back of my hand. Maybe I should work for another company to see how it compares to Lockheed Martin. Sometimes I wonder what advantages other DOD contractors have over Lockheed.

Well I have a long day tomorrow. Thank God tomorrow is Friday. The government needs to implement 3 day weekends every week to make employees more productive. (smile)

ITEC 610 Week 7

I was so relieved that I did okay on my midterm. I always feel a little anxiety after I take a major test. I also worry day and night about how well I did. I’ve been this way since high school. I read professor Les comments about the midterm and class in general. I will admit that the midterm wasn’t hard, but I don’t understand why students complain about the difficulty of a test. If the professor made it too hard, they would complain about that. Spelling and grammar errors are unacceptable, and I am going to do better to review my work before turning it in. I know I am sometimes guilty of this.

I really enjoyed answering the question if outsourcing is right or wrong. I felt that it was wrong, but can fully understand why some of my peers feels that it is okay. This is the second or third post the professor has posted which made me really understand the opposing side views. I think these are the best post because even if you don’t agree you get a feeling of why the other side agrees and how it may work. Sometimes these posts open your eyes, that’s why it’s always good to be open minded.

I haven’t started on my mini-project yet, because this one seems a little more difficult for me to start for some reason.

ITEC 610 Week 6

Wheew! I just finished my midterm. I hope I did ok. I'm very tired as I have been working on it all week. It was hard for me to write so much information. I really had to sit and think hard. I hope Professor Les doesn't grade to hard, because I have a hard time writing pages and pages of thoughts. Overall I think I did pretty well. We are halfway done with this semester. I am actually pretty excited because I'm ready for the semester to be over. Its hard for me to sit and do work when all of my friends are enjoying the nice weather. I guess the saying is true you have to work hard to play hard. Well I am very tired and have to get ready to get up and go to work.
Good night and sleep tight. Don't let the mid-term bugs bite. :)

ITEC 610 Week 5

I haven't been feeling all that well this week. So I'm a little behind schedule on my work. I really enjoyed coming up with a unique e-business. I think my idea of a custom online florists is a good idea. It allows people to be creative and let their creative juices flow when they want to send flowers. I think if a person can customized the flowers they want to send out, it puts a special touch on it. It also makes it more exciting for the person trying to design the arrangment. They get a first look of their own floral creation, picking the colors and flowers, and even picking the ribbon color, vase shape and size and so much more. I had a lot of fun coming up with this idea.

I'm hoping that no one else has come up with such an idea. I did some searching on google and couldn't find anything, so maybe I am in luck. I really wan't to continue to get full credit on my work each week. :)

-This is Jade signing off. Good night.

ITEC 610 Week 4

Class is continuing to get very interesting. I'm shocked we are doing a mini-project that has to do with twitter. I think this class is fun. I guess it's easy when you already have a general knowledge of some of the topics discussed in class.

I really like the idea a classmate had about streaming HD-TV over the internet. I think this would be an instant hit since most people already view tv shows on their computer. I think streaming HD-TV shows over the internet will cause people to stop buying big screen tv's. Many people already use their computer a lot more than their tv's so it makes a lot of sense. I sometimes go days without using my tv because I can look a recent episodes of shows on my computer. If they ever have HD-TV over the computer and even live, that will be great. Maybe someone is already working on this.

I commented on the wireless LANs and mobile technology conference. I think both are great because it allows people to have instant access to the world. What human doesn't like instant gratification? Since these types of technology allows people to access information from anywhere at the palm of your hands, its bound to grow and become more competitive. People are always looking for the latest and greatest technology to give them instant and fast access to information.

ITEC 610 Week 3

I am so excited that I got an early start on my homework this week. I hope to keep this going for the rest of the semester. I was happy I could provide some information on how "data at rest" can be protected. Many of the discussion board topics I have some general knowledge of. One of my other classmates mentioned off-site backups, and for some reason I thought Lockheed was the only company that did that. I know how naive can I be? I'm happy to know that other companies use similar strategies to solve common security issues with different technologies.

I'm glad we had a mini-3 project with respect to zillow.com. The website has changed a lot since the last time I've used it, which was at least two years ago. It seems they have made some upgrades to the site to make it more user friendly and it seems they have made it easier to access information. I still think that homedatabase.com is a better website for a consumer that is looking for homes in the DC Metro area, because it gets all its information straight from the MLS or property records. I'm still not sure what I want to do my group project assignment on, but I will post some of my ideas once I think of a few. Right now its still early in the week and my mind is starting to drift toward Game 3 of the NBA finals. :)

ITEC 610 Week 2

Class this week has been fun. I am still trying to come up ideas for my mini-project on how technology will be in 10 years. I have a few ideas, but I'm not sure which way I will let my creative juices flow. I enjoyed reading how my other classmates responded to the discussion boards. I was intrigued when I learned that there is more than one type of virtualization. The only one that I had some familiarity with was VMWare. I was happy that another classmate knew something about VMWare. I guess VMWare is more popular than I realized, and Lockheed isn’t the only company that uses it.

I also commented on the Technology Refresh discussion thread. I agree that that refresh of technology in a corporation should be based on whether the company needs the hardware and/or software updates. At first I was thinking that companies should try to stay ahead of the curve and update its technology before it’s actually really needed, but after reading some of my other classmate’s threads, I am starting to see that it could sometimes cause more harm than good to update technology too early. I now think it’s best to wait until substantive testing has been done on the new hardware and software before an organization decides to upgrade. Also, companies need to also think about how the new technology may affect existing technology currently being used already in the company.

ITEC 610 Week 1

The first week of class was very interesting. I really enjoy reading other classmates views on different questions in the discussion thread. I'm learning that my thoughts are often going down a totally different path than other students, but that’s a good thing since we all think differently. Dr. Lang posted a question on this week’s discussion blog that talked about has traditional management culture changed due to IT? I felt that it did and it caused management to be less personable with its employees. After reading some of my classmates post, they made me rethink some of my views and after rereading the post my mind started to change. Maybe IT does make management run more efficiently and effectively. It also saves them some time, which is a good thing. Another point that a classmates made is that it cuts down on traveling cost, because now they have videoconferencing. Having these discussion threads is a really a good learning tool. It seems the more people respond, the more I learn. :)
